The Feeding of the 5000

Read John 6:1-15

Jesus went around preaching, telling people the Good News about God. Thousands of people came to listen to Jesus. One day, over 5,000 people came to listen to Jesus. That’s a lot of people!

The people grew hungry. Jesus told his friends, “We have to feed these people.” The
disciples asked, “How? We have no food.” There was a boy in the crowd of people. He had just a little bit of food: 5 small loaves of bread and 2 small fish. The boy gave Jesus his food.

Jesus prayed. Jesus took the boy’s food and broke it into small pieces. The food
became more and more. Jesus’ friends passed out the food to the people. There was
enough for everyone and there was even food left over.

We all have something to give, just like that boy. We can be nice to someone who’s scared. and offer to help when someone needs help. When we help others, we are serving God.

Family Discussion
  • What did Jesus tell His friends to do for the hungry people?
  • What did the little boy give Jesus?
  • What are some ways that we can help other people and serve God?
