Jesus Lives and Forgives

Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem with excitement and praise, but only days later was sentenced to die on the cross. His body was buried in a tomb and it was sealed tightly with a great big rock.

Read Matthew 28:1-10

Three days later, a few of Jesus’ friends went to His tomb. They brought spices to help
preserve the body. When they got there, they were surprised that the big stone was
rolled away, and Jesus’ body was not inside. Instead, there was an angel outside the
tomb. He told the women that Jesus was no longer dead. He had risen just like He said
He would.

They were so excited to know their Lord was alive! They ran to tell Jesus’ other
followers the wonderful news. On their way, they got another surprise. Jesus met them
on their walk. He told them to go tell the others the good news, that God had raised Him from the dead.

Jesus came on mission to die, but that’s not where it ended. He came to be risen from
the dead. That’s something no one else could do! This only happened because Jesus
is God’s Son. No one else has the power to come back from the dead. Because Jesus
is alive, we can know that He really is God’s Son, and that He came to be our Savior.
That’s why we celebrate Easter.
