Journey to Bethlehem: The Shepherds

Read: Luke 2:1-20

There were so many people in the town of Bethlehem and the nation of Israel. God could have sent his angels to the palace of the king. He could have sent them into the home of the richest family in Bethlehem. God chose the humblest, poorest of men with whom to share the good news. He picked a bunch of shepherds working out in the fields. Dirty, poor shepherds! These guys had nothing, not a bed to lie in, not a single gift to bring. But God gave them the greatest gift they would ever imagine. They got to be the first to see baby Jesus.

Christmas is the time to celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus came for all of us, for every one of you. Nothing you could ever do will change that. That’s the message of Christmas. God loves you so much, he gave you his only Son.

As the kids raced to wrap gifts during our Wrap Challenge, we talked about Jesus, the greatest gift of all!

Memory Verse
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."  Luke 2:10-11
