Journey to Bethlehem: Joseph

Through December, the kids are going through a series titled, "Journey to Bethlehem"!

Matthew 1:18-25

The book of Mathew tells us several things about Joseph. We know he was a carpenter. And we know he was engaged to Mary, who would give birth to baby Jesus. But before Matthew delves into all that, he tells us something else about Joseph. He tells us that Joseph is descended from a long line of men who loved God and had great faith.

Joseph had a choice. Like his forefathers, he had to decide whether or not to trust in the Lord. Abraham trusted God would give him children and turn them into a mighty nation. Ruth believed her future was with the Lord in Israel. David believed God would help him defeat a giant. Joseph didn’t understand what God was doing or why He had chosen Joseph, but he had faith. God blessed Joseph and us through His only son, Jesus.

We can trust that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah He promised long before Joseph was born. We can trust that Jesus can forgive our sins. We can trust that God has a plan for our lives, just as He did for Joseph. It may not be an easy road, and we may not always understand where God is leading us. But if we have faith, God will bless us and others through our faith.

Memory Verse
But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news. It will bring great
joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is
the Messiah, the Lord.’” - Luke 2:10-11
