Breastplate of Righteousness

Like a soldier going into battle, the Lord wants us to be armored from head to toe so we can protect ourselves in the spiritual battles that take place every day.

This week, we added a new piece of armor, the breastplate of righteousness.

A person filled with God’s goodness and righteousness is able to protect their heart from sin. When your heart is right with God, God can give you victory. We can defeat sin, or in the case of this week’s Bible story, we can topple giants!

READ 1 SAMUEL 17:20-49

The soldiers of Israel were afraid. Their hearts were not with God. They were filled with fear. Then a little shepherd boy came along. He heard the giant mocking his God, and he was not afraid to face the giant. His heart was pure. He was filled with God’s righteousness.

Family Discussion Starters:
- What is righteousness?
- How was David righteous when he faced the giant?
- What can we do to live a righteous life?

Parents! Righteousness is our best defense against sin. Ask God to teach your kids the importance of being righteous and pray that they will have a heart for following God.

Memory Verse
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13
