On the Road to Emmaus

READ LUKE 24:13-32

The fun part of this story is that the two men walking with Jesus think they know the whole story. They know Jesus was the son of a carpenter. They know he did miracles. They know he died on the cross. What they didn’t know was why Jesus came or why he had to die. Jesus tells them the story in a whole new way. He tells them the old stories of the Old Testament and uses those stories to explain to them why everything happened the way it did. Then, at just the right moment, the happy ending is revealed. Jesus is alive – and he was right there with them the whole time!

Jesus gave his followers the command to tell his story, and it’s vitally important we obey that command. If we don’t tell the story, who will? It’s up to us to continue letting people know who Jesus is and what he has done for them.

Family Discussion starters:
  1. What were the two men walking to Emmaus talking about?
  2. What did the two men tell Jesus about his story?
  3. What did Jesus tell the two men to explain the rest of the story?
  4. When did the two men realize they had been talking to Jesus?
  5. Why do we need to tell others about Jesus?

Parents! It’s important for us not only to know the story of Jesus; we need to know how to retell it. Pray that God will help your children understand the gospel so they can share it with others.

Memory Verse
