Jesus Calms the Storm
Through the Gospels Series: We Should Never Be Afraid When Jesus is With Us.
Today in Calvary Kids, we learned about Jesus calming a storm in the middle of the Sea of Galilee with some of His disciples. When everything in this world seems out of control, Jesus is the ONE we can always look to when we are afraid or do not know how to deal with something.
Read Matthew 8:23-27
Imagine you are one of the disciples who got into the boat with Jesus after talking to a large group of people and you are in the middle of the Sea of Galilee. All of a sudden, a huge storm sweeps in and waves are lapping over the sides of the boat and you are absolutely positive that this boat is going to sink. All the while, Jesus is sleeping at the back of the boat in complete peace. What would you do?
These men were so afraid, and yet Jesus knew that the Father was in control. What a stark difference in how they both responded to what was happening! Jesus said to them in verse 26, "But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm."
The men marveled that Jesus could rebuke the winds and waves, and they would obey Him. Jesus has the power to give us peace when we feel afraid or have a storm in our lives that we do not know how to get through. We do not have to be afraid when those storms come, because Jesus is in control and we can go to Him for ALL things. We truly can trust in God to help us because He is the one in control of all things and we don't have to be.
Family Discussion:
1. What makes you afraid?
2. Do you trust that Jesus can calm us down when it seems like there is a storm in our lives?
3. How do you respond when difficult things are going on around you?
4. What does it mean when we say God is in control of everything?
Memory Verse:
"But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm."
Matthew 8:26
