Peter's Escape
This week in Calvary Kids, we talked about prayer and another miracle that the Lord did. Peter had been arrested and meanwhile others who were of the faith prayed for him earnestly. Prayer is powerful and we should be earnestly praying for those around us in need.
Read Acts 12
We see in the very beginning of this chapter that King Herod was arresting those who believed in Christ and persecuting them. He even had James, a believer, killed with the sword! What a time they were living in! When Herod saw the way people were reacting to this and applauding it, he wanted to seek Peter out to do the same thing. Peter was then imprisoned and the people of the early church began to pray earnestly.
Have you ever earnestly prayed for something? These believers were seriously praying for God to do something and He did! Peter was sleeping in a prison cell between two soldiers while awaiting trial. and an angel of the Lord came in and told him to wake up. Peter did not even fully know what was going on, but followed this angel right out of his cell and down the street right out of prison. Peter was not even fully sure this was real and thought he was in a vision, but the Lord had just made a miracle happen. Peter was free! What a miracle!
When Peter realized what was going on, He knew it was the Lord. He immediately came to the house of his friends who were praying earnestly because he wanted to share what God had done. The servant Rhoda knew Peter's voice and knew it was him, but the others did not believe her until they saw him for themselves. They were absolutely astonished that he was there!
After he told them all what had happened, he moved to the next place. The next morning there was a commotion from the soldiers about what had happened to Peter and Herod was very unhappy. Herod was so unhappy that he blamed it on his guards and they got in very big trouble.
Ultimately, God has a plan and we need to trust that plan. Sometimes we end up in places or situations that we don’t want to be, but God with get us through them. Trust that He has you and also be praying earnestly for those around you in hard situations. God can do ALL things.
Family Discussion:
1. Who was treating the Christians badly?
2. What did the church do when they found out Peter was in prison?
3. What miracle did we see today?
4. What are some things we can earnestly pray for?
5. Do you trust in God’s plan for your life?
6. Is there someone in your life that doesn’t know Jesus that we can be praying for?
Memory Verse:
"So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him." Acts 12:5
