CALVARY CHAPEL MERIDIAN

A Lame Man is Healed

This week in Calvary Kids we learned that Peter, through the working of the Holy Spirit, healed a man who was lame. God was truly the one who was doing this miracle through the hands of one of his own disciples, and it was a miracle!

Read Acts 3

Peter and John were going to the temple to pray when they saw this lame man who could not walk. He was laid daily at the gate to ask for alms, since he had no other way of making money or providing for himself.

This poor man asked Peter if he had any alms to give to him, and Peter instead asked him to look at him and John. He gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them, completely unaware of what was going to happen next. Verse 6 says, "Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” As Peter helped him up, this man's feed and ankle bones received strength and he began walking, leaping and praising God!

Did you catch that the gate that this lame man was carried to everyday was called Beautiful? What an amazing thing that at a gate called Beautiful, something beautiful really happened! This lame man spent his whole life not being able to get up on his own, and now he was healed!! What would be going through your mind in this moment if you saw this happen to someone you knew was a cripple, or if you were that person?

This man gave credit where it was due. Not only did he leap around, but most importantly, he PRAISED GOD. Let us not forget where our help comes from and to make sure that we give thanks to God for the things that He does in our life.

All the people were greatly amazed and ran over to see what had happened! They all knew this man could not walk before and now was leaping around and praising God! They were greatly amazed and drawn in by the work of the Holy Spirit. They all gathered around, and Peter took that moment to make sure that they knew that it was nothing of him, but of God. Do we make sure to give credit to God when amazing things happen in our lives?

Peter preached to them and gave them another chance to repent of their sins and accept Christ as their Savior. What a perfect opportunity! Jesus always keeps his promises and does what he says He is going to do. He was raised from the dead and He sent the Helper He had promised to them! We can be confident in knowing that God will never lie to us and we can trust in the promises that He gives to us. If you have not given your life to Christ yet, what are you waiting for?

Family Discussion:
1. Do you think the Holy Spirit could use you do a miracle like this?

2. Does anyone know how we receive the Holy Spirit to come upon you to do miracles?

3. What is something in your life you need pray for?

4. Is there someone you could pray for right now who needs it?

5. Do you understand who the Holy Spirit is?

6. Do you believe in the power of the Holy Spirit?

Memory Verse:
"And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them walking, leaping, and praising God." Acts 3:7-8
