The Parable of the Treasure and the Pearl

You are God's Treasure

Today in Calvary Kids, we learned about another parable that signifies Christ's love for us. He sees us as His treasure, and He should be ours. This parable powerfully shows how Jesus gave everything to redeem the whole world to preserve a treasure in it, and the treasure is His people

Read Matthew 13:44-46

The man in this parable is Jesus and the treasure He finds is you! Jesus thinks you’re so valuable that He paid it all for you and gave His life for you. Jesus didn’t find the treasure and steal it, He paid for it with His blood as He took our punishment on the cross.

Sometimes we might feel like we’re not valuable, but to Christ you are! Jesus thought you were so valuable that in the parable example, He found one pearl (that’s you) and wanted to give up all He had you buy it. Jesus giving His life for ours proves that He loved us as it says in Romans 5:8 ‘But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’

We can look at history and into the biggest treasures on earth that have ever been found, but those do not compare to the treasure that Christ sees in us. You are worth more than all those things in the eyes of Jesus. But not only that, we should make Jesus the biggest treasure in our lives. Matthew 6:21 says ‘For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ Whatever we think is most important, whatever we value the most, that is where our hearts will be, and they should be with Jesus.

Never forget the unconditional love that Christ has for each one of you and the price that He paid on the cross for your life because of who He is. You are His treasure.

Family Discussion:
1. What is your greatest treasure?

2. What makes Jesus more valuable that earthly treasures?

3. How does it make you feel that Jesus loved you so much, that He would die on the cross for you to have life?

4. Do you think parables are hard to understand?

5. In what way can you love the Lord this next week?

Memory Verse:
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 13:46
