Fruit of the Spirit: Faithfulness

Be Faithful to God

Today in Calvary Kids, we focused on the seventh Fruit of the Spirit - Faithfulness. Faithfulness is what God wants from us in our walk with Jesus. He wants us to be faithful to Him and choose to do the right thing no matter what. When we are faithul to God, we are loyal to Him, trusting and following Him. One of God’s most faithful servants was a man named David.

Read 1 Samuel 24

David finally had his chance for revenge, and he chose to be faithful to God instead. Faithfulness means we don’t follow the crowd. We follow Jesus. We stick to the path God shows us, and we see it through to the end. Faithfulness to God will not only bring us closer to Him, but it will also help us grow all the Fruits of the Spirit. Faithfulness is more than going to church each week, singing songs, and saying the right things. It means choosing God’s way, even when no one is looking. It means we will say no to sin and say no to temptation, even if we are the only person willing to do so.

Family Discussion
  • What does it mean to be faithful? (following Jesus with loyalty and trust, and following the path the Lord has set before us, choosing God's way over our own way)
  • Why did David choose not to kill Saul? (He was the Lord's anointed King)
  • How did David remain faithful to God when given the opportunity to kill King Saul? (David remained faithful by ignoring the words of his men and staying true to the Word of God, he trusted that God would make David king at the right time and that vengeance belonged to Lord.)
  • How can we fix our eyes on Jesus each day, not just on the days we go to church?
  • How can we see more of the fruit of the spirit of Faithfulness in our own lives? (Faithfulness grows when we get closer to Jesus and discover His amazing faithfulness to us)

Memory Verse
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
