Joseph is the Favorite

This week we started a new series about the life of Joseph. Over the course of Joseph’s life, he’s sold into slavery, tossed in jail, forgotten, neglected, you name it. Life was truly unfair to Joseph! Joseph went through a lot of hard things so that he could play an important role in saving his family. God didn’t just bless Joseph. He blessed the whole family and the nation of Egypt.

READ GENESIS 37:1-11

Joseph’s brothers had a legitimate reason to say life was unfair. There were 12 boys in Joseph’s family, and out of those 12 boys, dad had one son that was clearly the favorite. Joseph got the coat of many colors. And Joseph had all those dreams that one day, his brothers would bow before him.
When life is unfair, we can take comfort knowing God loves us completely. God can give us comfort when  life is not fair.

Family Discussion:
- Why were Joseph’s brothers jealous?
- How was Jacob unfair to his other sons?
- What should we do when we think life is unfair?

Memory Verse
The Lord is a place of safety for those who have been treated badly. He keeps them safe in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9
